I had the pleasure of working with Vijay on Flashlite technology for Symbian mobiles. Vijay is a very hard working individual with keen interest to learn new technologies and tackles any issues faced with perseverance, taking the task to completion. He has the right skills to be successful in any team that he is part of.

My research has been focusing on building core competencies of Sensel in the areas of accurate force sensing, precise touch tracking, and creating rich haptic experiences. I work cross-functionally with engineering and design teams to integrate these novel technologies into consumer electronic devices such as laptop touchpads, automotive interactive surfaces, gaming peripherals, virtual reality, and so on. I develop new algorithms and features to enhance touch and sensor performance across a variety of hardware and use-cases. Also, I am responsible for developing and evaluating new user experience concepts and prototypes that showcase Sensel’s force-sensing touch technology. Furthermore, to ensure that users have the best experience when using Sensel devices (e.g., touchpad), I design and conduct user studies to set the target accuracy and sensitivity metrics of the sensors. Lastly, to support mass production, I develop automated robotic tests that validate the quality of sensors. In my doctoral research, I focus on developing gaze-assisted, multi-modal paradigm to interact with computers. Eye movement-based interactions are crucial in scenarios where a user cannot use conventional input devices like a mouse and keyboard, and largely, there are two such scenarios: 1) situational impairments, i.e., a user's hands are engaged in a task, for example, driving, a surgeon operating, holding things, etc. 2) impairments and disabilities by birth or due to an injury. In these two scenarios, gaze-assisted interaction serves as a rich, contextual, and non-invasive technology to help people interact with computers. Gaze-assisted, multi-modal interaction: I have developed a gaze and foot-based interaction framework to achieve accurate "point and click" interactions and to perform dwell-free text entry on computers. Also, I have developed a gaze gesture-based framework for user authentication to counter shoulder surfing attacks and to interact with a wide range of computer applications using a repository of eye gestures. I have also been exploring gaze interactions in virtual and augmented reality. Specifically, I investigate the feasibility of using eye movements for text entry in VR. Eye movements-based predictive analytics: In addition to developing gaze-assisted interactions, I perform predictive analytics using movements data. Some of the relevant works include identifying what aspects in a candidate's resume influence a recruiter's decision to hire or not to hire, predicting the perceived difficulty of problems when students solve problems on intelligent tutoring systems, etc. I envision that when eye tracking becomes pervasive, we can expect many consumer devices to support hands-free interactions. Also, users with accessibility needs could use the same devices and have the same experience as the able-bodied people.

I taught a course, C/C++ programming, as an instructor of record in Spring 2017 and in Fall 2016. There were 71 students enrolled in Spring 2017 and 46 in Fall 2016. My responsibilities included composing the syllabus, teaching, creating exams and assignments, and final grading (more details on my website).
