This six-week placement focused on cognitive communication intervention for an adult TBI population within a private practice environment, as well as adult swallowing assessments and school-aged literacy intervention. I am now familiar with the unique challenges that accompany traumatic brain injury, as well as how to structure and deliver intervention to this population experiencing cognitive communication deficits. I gained experience administering and scoring video fluoroscopic swallow studies according to MBSImP protocol, as well as providing recommendations. My work with school-aged literacy intervention allowed me to develop strong tele-practice skills when delivering virtual intervention to a pediatric population. Day to day tasks included intervention goal setting and session planning, intervention delivery, swallowing assessment preparation and facilitation, documentation, and formal report writing.
