Wrote and edited reports with summaries of Parliamentary Committee meetings of the National Government of South Africa. These reports were published online in contribution to the oversight and accountability function of the public over Parliament. Each report lasted anything from one to 40 pages in length and required extreme detail orientation, particularly when referencing figures from presentations by government departments. I primarily monitored the Justice and Correctional Services and the Committee and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, particularly throughout the beginnings of COVID-19 and the budgetary re-prioritization. The latter Committee dealt with the expenditure of public funds by government departments and state owned enterprises. Show less

Completed 60 hours of community service, giving legal advice to clients under the supervision of an attorney as required for my LLB. The Unit is funded by the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) and therefore work involved seeing clients daily, assessing if they fell within the international and national legal definition of 'refugee' before further assisting with legal advise or preparing paperwork for cases ranging from eviction notices to labor disputes. Interviewed about 20 clients a day (refugees and asylum seekers). Discerned the validity of their claim by filling out an intake form to see if they qualified for the UNHCR support packages being offered. Decided the urgency and vulnerability of each case in light of the waning quantity of resource availability. Suggested avenues of assistance should the alternative be necessary. Wrote motivations for the assistance of each qualifying refugee and their families. Distributed food stamps and hygiene packs. Communicated to some clients in French to ascertain the passage of travel leading them to arrive in South Africa. Show less
