  facilitate parent education classes for parents who may be required to attend due to court order, DHR requirements or school resourse referrals, or other agency referrals to attend parenting classes. The classes are designed to present basic parenting skills and techniques to parents in a clear and simple manner that allows attendees to hear and practice the skills and apply them in daily life with their families . Each 10 week session is customized to meet the needs of the current enrollees, based on info from the referring agency and/or the information survey completed by the enrollee. Much class time is spent in group discussion and reinforcing the positive methods of parenting, while reviewing many commonly used methods that have not been sucessful for the family or well being of the child. (i.e. spanking, yelling, ignoring, etc.) It is always my aim to be positive, constructive and encourageing as I educate. I make every effort not to be judgemental or condeming even as I firmly lead the parent to try the new skills to have better results . We have had at least three 10 week sessions per calendar year since I became the facilitaor in 2000. The parenting classes are my favorite thing to do.I consistantly get positive feedback from the attendees and the agencies who referred them.This is personally very rewarding for me. I love seeing the changes in the parents as they begin to feel confident and empowered to raise happy, healthy children. In March of this year I attended a week long training conference for Parent Project. I was impressed with the information content and look forward to teaching classes using the Parent Project material and methods in future parenting classes. Show less

Assist juvenile probation officers with detainee issues. Act as liasian between facility operation and parents, law enforcement agencies and mental health, DHR and other community service agencies as needed.
