Tonia Lopez, PhD
Vicki is a relationships expert. She genuinely cares about her students, her colleagues and the families she interacts with. I worked with Vicki when she was a physical education teacher and she introduced new and engaging strategies into her classroom to ensure that studetns accessed vocabulary and the standards. She also implemented a new program as the Dean of Values Based Discipline to support kids who had yet to find success in Middle School. Her focus in the program was on academics, relationships, and identity. The middle of the year MGP for the students in the program was the highest in the school. It was an honor to work with Vicki.

Vicki consistently was a supportive and concerned educator who referred many at risk students to me. She had great attention to the needs of her students and always followed up on her concerns. I was impressed with her communication skills, ability to problem solve and compassion for her students. She had great leadership skills and was well respected in our school. Vicki is someone you need to lead compassionately and thoroughly!

Leadership & Program Development Created and implemented the first Restorative Practice program to reduce suspensions and improve wellbeing Transforming a traditional punitive discipline system into a holistic Restorative Practice (RP). Lead a behavior team of teachers that has expanded from 5 to 20 in three years. Implemented Student Support Room (SSR) in lieu of suspension; confer with parents and staff to address behavioral issues, student works 1:1 with a behavior teacher, completes an action plan. Partner with juvenile services, community leaders, and other local agencies for a holistic approach. Delivered presentations to RP District 2020 and Parent Advisory Council (PAC). Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards and set performance goals. Evaluate curricula and programs to determine effectiveness and to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Recruit, hire, mentor and coach teachers and staff including professional development activities. Manage budget of $3.9M and determine fund allocation for staff, supplies, and authorized purchases. Developed knowledge and experience with the observation feedback cycle CDE-RANDA. Advocacy, Lobbying & Legislation Applied and accepted to the CASE Student Discipline Group to review Colorado legislation related to student disciplinary issues. Assisted in the passing of House Bill 22-1376 that reworked data submissions on discipline. Assisted in the passing of House Bill 22-1131 that focused on measures to reduce justice involvement.
