At UCLH I was responsible for the management of the Medical Physics Department at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital for twelve months while concurrently helping the specialised technicians in the Neonatal Department at the main hospital for last three months. This position has helped me gain valuable experience in time management and the prioritisation of my workload. I was able to gain experience on audiometers, endoscopes, SiPAP’s as well as reinforcing prior knowledge. Through Industry Based Learning I was able to discover what directions my degree could take me. I spent 3 months in the Lung Function Department learning about Respiratory Science and how to conducted lung function tests on patients. I then went to the Cardiology Department and spent 3 months learning about ECG's, holter monitors, echo's, exercise stress testing, pace makers and what happens in the cath lab. I spent the next 6 months in the Biomedical Engineering Department. Here I performed various duties including electrical safety testing, area testing, maintainence and repair of equipment as well as working on a project for the hospital. We designed and worked towards developing an automated delivery system for nitric oxide for ICU. Show less
