Vern and I worked together for 2.5 years. In that time I observed a very high level of passion for his work and commitment to the company. I would be happy to answer any questions regarding Vern.

Joining in the early days of a swift ramp up, I’ve helped evolve a new team with an ambitious objective to build an entirely new Sports app. Early days of the project was used to define the methods the teams will work within and help them determine their best approach to working together. A minority of the team was existing while the rest were new. This had many people arriving at the project with their own versions of Agile and the challenge was to ensure everyone agreed on the best version that would work for this team. We also used this early stage to get an epic level understanding of the product, determine prioritises of those epics and use relative estimations to get an early understanding of the programme plan and what the first version of the launchable product might look like. I coached the team to establish, and I facilitated the base ceremonies while constantly stopping and evaluating team development progress, via engaging and rewarding retrospectives. Consistent demos kept the direct team evaluating the progress and regular Showcases kept stakeholders in touch with the product as it evolved. I created my own reporting, exporting data from Jira to give a better representation of the work being carried out, particularly to enable good decision making for each feature and epic, helping determine prioritisation and item breakdown. This reporting also extended to programme planning by utilising now known data on existing epics and deliverables. Day to day consists of a scrumming iOS, Android and Roku teams with goal-driven daily stand-ups, sprint and iteration progress reporting, monitoring for any blockers or issues that affect the team’s delivery and constantly helping the teams groom the next sprints. The next stage is to break the team out of their traditional platform-based workflows and build on delivery focused teams.

Successfully delivering multiple high-profile projects while advancing a low maturity Agile team to a premium example of Scrum development. For over eighteen months I had been both Iteration Manager and Scrum Master to a new development team within Seven as well as working with outsource companies to deliver products such as 7Tennis, Home and Away, Rio Olympics and 7Live live streaming and video on demand apps. Managing V8 Supercars digital assets and technology from timing to tipping, making them work fundamentally and commercially. In 2013 we launched a completely new website and hosting environment, put out the 2013 version of the timing app for Android and iOS and in under 3 months, created and launched the new IPTV stream product V8 SuperView.

The V8 Supercar Manager has responsibility for producing and maintaining all V8 Supercar content across the broadband and mobile platforms of the BigPond Sports Portfolio. This includes content, vendor management, marketing and promotions, strategy, component design, implementation and project management. A large portion of the role’s responsibility is the v8supercars.com.au website but also includes the mobile site and applications and IPTV via the Telstra T-Box and smart TV’s. The race weekends are the peak traffic periods as well as the only opportunity to gather content for the website to stretch across the 365 days of the year. So an enormous amount of activities go into ensuring the website runs correctly and as much content as possible is gathered. News is the biggest traffic generator on the website so my re-employment of the editorial team in 2011 has proven to be extremely successful. The website also has critical real time communications to the timing servers at the track which provides live content on the website and distributes to the mobile site and SMS services. The website also benefits from a strong relationship between Telstra and V8 Supercars as well as all the teams competing in the series.
