Apart from assisting the team with the preparation of safety cases as per UK safety case regulations (SCR2015), my role calls for a particular focus on technical aspects such as developing verification schemes and associated performance standards for safety critical equipment on board drilling units, facilitating HAZOPs and major accident hazard risk assessments. I have been the project lead for carrying out assessments onboard drilling units such as PUWER assessments on work equipment to ensure they are safe to use, and compartment studies for assessing the risks of fire, flood and explosion. I have also conducted human factors assessments on drilling units to identify performance influencing factors that could lead to human errors which required carrying out ergonomic assessments of control stations and analysing organisational practices and procedures. The knowledge I have gained in this position helps in me in providing technical advice to duty holders, working on multiple projects for different clients simultaneously. I have developed my communication skills over the years and now hold both one-to-one and group meetings with representatives of drilling contractors and classification societies. I also train and mentor new joiners to help expedite their learning and empower them to work independently.
