Vanessa and her team are currently partnered with the Beacon Charter School for the Arts in Woonsocket, RI.       Rhode Island School of the Future is dedicated to helping all Rhode Island children improve their lifelong learning skills by: supporting their teachers and mentors; providing opportunities for applied learning in mathematics, science and engineering; and nurturing technological fluency, confidence, communication skills and leadership. Rhode Island School of the Future (RISF) is primarily known for running three programs, Robotics Park, FIRST® LEGO® League and Jr. FIRST LEGO League. All of these programs encourage students to get involved in hands-on science, technology, engineering and math while developing their ability to communicate and work in teams. Additionally, RISF has a 20-year history of piloting robotic design activities in Rhode Island’s classrooms, often implementing concepts from MIT's graduate course in total quality design. Each year RISF offers a variety of workshops for teachers to encourage the use of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) across the curriculum.       Behring Teacher Ambassadors will work with students and teachers to help them better understand the 2015-2016 National History Day theme and to expand NHD programs in their regions. Participating teachers will attend a training workshop in July, collaborate with their program’s affiliate coordinator to develop a working plan and implement an action plan to support and expand NHD activities. NHD is a nonprofit education organization in College Park, MD. Established in 1974, NHD offers yearlong academic programs that engage over half a million middle and high school students around the world annually in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. These research- based projects are entered into contests at the local and affiliate levels, where the top student projects have the opportunity to advance to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park.
