MudLab/ For Here, Please is a cafe and non-profit; we are a community meeting place focused on sustainability. The ways in which we currently serve our neighborhood: We clean up trash at Lake Merritt. We encourage customers to remember their reusable mugs, bags, and containers and use a jar rental system to support the cafe’s zero-waste mission. We offer free food boxes each week to those in need via a partnership with Mandela Partners; we offer free coffee to those in need three times a week. We pay our baristas a living wage and raise awareness about the wage gap for service sector workers. We educate children and young adults about environmental stewardship via a Children’s Book on climate change and by going directly to schools to host workshops/trainings. We host zero-waste events and strive to create a zero-waste supply chain for the cafe and store. We sell used clothing, books, and other household items to encourage reuse.
