Jul 1998 - Jun 1999
As a first year teacher, I was expected to create a class for students grade 6-12 out of a former storeroom for students whose behaviors were so out of control in their Behavior Development classes that they had to be removed from the regular education campus, with no support from the current campus' administration (we were considered a separate entity). I was trained in the Boys Town Behavior Managment system. Detention Officer-Corporal
-
Jun 1986 - Jan 1994
Prior to being a teacher, I spent 7 years in the detention field, starting as a detention officer and working my way up to floor control officer (corporal). My duties included ensuring the care, safety, and welfare of the inmates and the officers assigned to the floor. As an FCO (cpl) I was not only in charge of the floor assigned to me, but also for the training of new officers assigned to me. As a corporal I also had occasion to create shift schedules, ensure payroll paperwork was completed, and reviewed official paperwork. FCO's were also expected to handle minor conflict resolution.
