I first became acquainted with Valeria Pesce through our mutual involvement in the International Association of Librarians and Documentalists (IAALD) and affiliated international organizations working to disseminate agriculture-related information throughout the world in the most efficient and effective manner to meet user needs. Valeria’s knowledge of web-based information systems and standards has made her an invaluable resource and colleague for collaborative efforts such as the Global Rangelands initiative, AgriVIVO, and GODAN. She is able to communicate difficult concepts clearly and concisely and is always willing to assist others in a timely manner. Valeria’s contributions to the agricultural information community as a whole have been extensive as evidenced by her extensive list of publications and presentations. It has been my pleasure and distinct good fortune to have numerous opportunities to work with Valeria and to benefit from her knowledge and considerable capabilities. I know she will be successful at any venture in which she is involved.

Well, Linked In says "I managed Valeria directly". This is somewhat misleading :-). Valeria does not need to be "managed". She was part of my team at FAO, but working for another project, the Global Forum for Agricultural Research, she managed herself a team. We worked together from 2005 until my departure from FAO in 2017 and also after that in 2 follow up projects until June 2018. It was wonderful to work with her. She is one of the view persons, which are creative and thorough. She is a continuous source of new ideas, but she also implements them to a workable state. We went together through several FP6, Horizon2020 projects and some of the products got their own lifeline like the "CIARD RING". Valeria started as a Drupal expert, and she is very good in Drupal, added semantic technologies to her skillset, is a fabulous project manager, one of those who knows, who knows what they are managing. Always more she got into capacity development and in the last years she was leading the CD component of a big open data project. What is also important: she is a perfect team worker,, her patience is exemplary, and she is a very, very lovely person with whom I enjoyed any minute of collaboration.
