Forsakrings Girot(FG)’s internally developed system provides pension and insurance administration solutions to a number of client companies across Sweden. This system was developed quite a long time back in the late 1990s using technologies and frameworks available at that time (Swing based application which is run on client desktop using JNLP). For the past few years, FG is moving away from the legacy code and building a new system using distributed architecture for its growing needs. The new system follows a micro-services architecture using docker containerization. I was a part of the development team that was doing this transition. During my tenure, I had to analyze the old system to help business analysts compile the requirements for the new system that were to be done along with the new incoming changes. In the process, I also had to develop new micro-services from scratch involving requirement analysis, system designing including both database and application, coding the application and testing running it in the docker environment.
