My work was mainly as representative in EU SME Support, which is a project to help Swedish SMEs to apply for funding under Horizon2020 and Eurostars. It involves actions like going through business strategy, reading application and preparing for interview. For SwedenBIO, I also manage the workgroup for Process development and Manufacturing. Optimizing Drug Discovery. N2MO is a biotechnology company developing insect based screening models for predicting ADMET properties of chemical agents in the early drug discovery phase. N2MO retains the patents on insect models used for drug development. Our Grasshopper ex vivo model addressed the uptake of drugs in the brain across the blood-brain barrier. As a result we enables the identification of “false negatives” and “false positives” at a very early stage in the drug discovery development and thereby contributes to potentially significant savings of time and money in the drug discovery process – which forms the key challenge for the industry todayMy role was to manage everything from the IP portfolio and assay development to sales and business development.

I worked with inward investment in the area of Life Science for the Region of Västerbotten. This work involved identifying business opportunities in Västerbotten, packaging them and then through marketing and sales, attract foreign companies. The goal was to get the foreign companies to either establish subsidiaries in Västerbotten, make strategic alliances or to provide venture capital to local companies. I managed to get organisations in Umeå to focus on a therapeutic area, infectious diseases, in order to give all we got at one thing. I also managed to start a national infectious disease initiative in Sweden. In the field of forest biotechnology we succeeded in making a large South American forest company to out-source research to the Umeå cluster. The latest initiative includes a national pilot project between Biotech Umeå and Dubiotech, in Dubai. After a delegation to Dubai a number of discussions regarding business partnerships has evolved. The last year I started an initiative together with Business Sweden to make foreign companies to reinvest in their sites in Sweden. This work has shown great results.VIA was a project funded partly by European Strategic Funds and was a regional partner to Business Sweden.
