In today's competitive market, it is critical to provide high-quality Hot Rolled Coils to customers at reasonable prices. In order to do this, it is imperative and inevitable to have control over cost. The main cost components in a Hot Strip Mill include energy, roll, consumables, yield, and so on. Because managing Energy, Roll, and Consumable costs is extremely difficult, yield is picked as one of the primary KPIs for improvement because the financial rewards from controlling Yield are enormous. Gross Yield in the Rolling process is defined as the ratio of output coil weight to input slab weight in the rolling process. Scale, Crop End, Salvage, Cobbles, and SMS losses are all involved in obtaining the goal yield (Steel Melting Shop). The purpose of the study is to better understand the factors that influence various losses and to provide useful information into how to control each loss. The research entails gathering data on the ground, statistical analysis, and drawing conclusions about possible solutions. SMS, Reheating Furnace, Roughing Mill, Coil Box, Finishing Mill, Down Coiler, and inspection were the areas included in the study. During the study, there was a process walkthrough and engagement with the Operations and Quality teams. Recommended improvement of 0.25% in Gross Yield from 97.74% (in FY 2019-20) to 97.99% (after final proposal) which is equivalent to 736 tons of additional coil production valued at ₹ 5.3 crores in FY’19.
