Trustworthy, resourceful, and multilingual are the words I can best describe Umer. Trust being one of the most important traits in a relationship, I'm pleased to have Umer as my manager when resolving any sort of issue, especially being in a foreign country. HIs ability to efficiently speak and understand Chinese has helped in a countless number of ways, such as translation needs and accompanied hospital visits. Lastly, I'm in awe how capable he can handle multiple projects at any given time. Any employee would be lucky to have Umer as a manager, and he earns my highest recommendation.

In the two years I've known Umer, I've continuously found new reasons to be impressed by him. Umer is incredibly intelligent in many ways - he's the kind of guy who develops impressive Chinese skills through Taobao orders and friendships (while many of us who took full time classes are left in the dust by him), and he'll also effectively trouble shoot your router issues via WeChat while having dinner in another city. He can eloquently debate ethics and he can explain an abstract scientific concept in a way that's accessible to his particular audience. However, far more impressive than Umer's intelligence and specific skills are his adaptability and the way he chooses to apply those skills. While working with me as a foreign teacher, he consistently had specific, actionable feedback on ways classes and administrative processes could be improved (handbook modifications, optimization of Chinese/foreign teacher lesson planning interactions, dissemination of effective classroom activities to the team, etc.), which made him a natural choice to fill the Director of Studies role when I left Mercan. As we spent a month preparing to hand the reigns over to Umer, he quickly demonstrated an intuitive understanding of how to manage the various stakeholders both within and outside the school, and I left Mercan knowing that the school had an excellent Director of Studies in place. Umer is a naturally helpful, empathetic person. He actually wants to help you fix that busted router, and will teach you the ins and outs of how to do it yourself if you're patient and willing. I've seen Umer bend over backwards countless times to help people with a variety of issues he was in no way obligated to deal with, and he doesn't get phased when problems get complicated. He just keeps on plugging away in that uniquely friendly and stress-reducing Umer way. It's not too often in life that you meet people that you genuinely look up to and who also make you feel like a better, more capable version of yourself. I can say without reservation that Umer is one of those people for me.
