      Carried out a Trade Assessment for bilateral trade potential between Pakistan and the US. The exercise involved landscape assessment of the prevailing laws and regulations concerning Pakistan-US trade, market assessment and building up sectoral profiles for potential priority sectors between these two countries.       I was in charge for the export regulation of critical daily-use products in the country i.e. Sugar, Fertiliser, Meat and its products, livestock, Fruits and Vegetables, Rice, Firewood and Coal etc. Sugar was the most critical. I was responsible to carry out a) economic analysis of the surplus sugar stock position in the country, b) monitor and analyse of the domestic and international sugar price and making recommendations whether the export is cost competitive, c) based on my analysis, making recommendation on behalf of the Commerce Ministry to the Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) of the Ministry of Industries and Production as to whether the sugar should be exported or not, d) review the sugar export subsidy request made by the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) in collaboration with Ministry of Finance, Federal Board of Revenue etc and present the findings to a High Level Committee formed by the Prime Minister. It was more or less same process for Fertiliser and other products. I supervised an Office Assistant, a Stenographer and a Peon during my tenure. Show less

      This role was more about coordination, intergovernmental support and technical cooperation. During my short tenure at this position, I was the officer-in-charge for coordinating and conducting the first ever successful trip to Pakistan by a Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Mr Roberto Azevedo in May 2016. On the technical front, I was part of the team of the Government of Pakistan involved in negotiating Pakistan's accession to proposed Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). I was also responsible in collecting suitable nominations of the officers from the Government of Pakistan for international training programs conducted under the aegis of WTO, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) etc. Moreover, regular coordination with Pakistan's Trade Missions abroad in relation to WTO's agreements was also part of the assignment.       My responsibilities mainly involved coordination with the various Global Governance Organisations based in Geneva and elsewhere. As regards to coordination, I was officer-in-charge for planning and executing Pakistan's fourth Trade Policy Review (TPR) by the WTO Secretariat. On the technical side, I gave my economic analysis for the report submitted by the Government of Pakistan for the TPR. Specifically, I gave my input with regards to Pakistan's share in World Trade vis a vis its regional partner developing countries of the Global South i.e. India, Bangladesh, Iran etc. On behalf of the Mission, I regularly attended meetings of Committee on Trade and Development (CTD) of the WTO and meetings in UNCTAD.
