    • EPSRC Summer Placement - Detail Design of a generic Airliner Model for Dynamics Wind Tunnel Testing
      • Jul 2008 - Sep 2008

As part of the EPSRC funded summer placement, I was involved in the detail design of a generic airliner model which was being considered for high alpha wind tunnel testing, mounted on a dynamic rig in the University's wind tunnel. Some of the key aspects of the role were: - Strength and stress analysis of the aircraft model. - Feasibility study on the use of rapid prototyping to reduce manufacturing time and cost. - Designing deployable flaps powered by servos, with feedback from rotary encoders. - Autodesk Inventor (a commercial of the shelf CAD package) was used extensively to create a 3D model of the aircraft including provision for electronics and a gimbal (for mounting purposes).
