I was a buyer at the procurement department of National Instruments' manufacturing arm for 8 months while simultaneously finshing my academic career at the University of Texas as an economics major. In my time there, I undertook projects in supply chain, risk management, trade compliance, sales, and other areas while forging relationships with suppliers and managing my daily role as a buyer. My primary role was that of a component buyer: I oversaw and managed orders of resistors, transistors, integrated circuits, and other semiconductor devices. Aside from the day-to-day task of managing purchasing orders, I also negotiated and evaluated quotes from suppliers and assessed them based on engineering and supply chain management needs. The tools of trade I used on a regular basis were a combination of Oracle inventory databases, a variety of advanced functions on Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.), and materials required planning/enterprise resource planning tools which I use to analyze engineering and R&D demand. National Instruments is a global corporation thus I regularly interacted with both departments and suppliers situated all across the world. I coordinated frequently with commodity managers in Hungary and Malaysia, and often undertook projects that require adhering to different time zones. Beyond my role as a buyer, I assisted our commodity managers (regional and global) directly with a variety of ongoing tasks ranging from data mining to price analysis. Show less

    • Vice President
      • 2010 - 2012

I was elected treasurer of the University Filmmakers Alliance (UFA) after one year of membership. After the second year, I was elected Vice President. UFA is a collection of UT students interested in film (mostly consisting of students in the Radio-Television-Film program). The purpose of the organization is to get cameras into the hands of students who either do not have access to them in their classes or are seeking to gain more experience. Not only do we bring in regular guest speakers (who have gone on to provide internships and jobs for our members and officers), but we also create and manage an entirely student run film festival known as Jump Cut Film Festival every year. We bring in key industry figures (producers, editors, cinematographers, etc.) to judge student films and provide insight into the industry. My role as a treasurer (and later as vice president) was primarily to manage the organization's funds. Over my 2 years of managing the budget, I oversaw the raising of over $6500 for the Jump Cut Film Festivals. Additionally, as vice president, I managed the other officers and assisted the president in any way needed. My work was primarily administrative and managerial. Show less
