"The Institute for Curatorial Practice is a five-week intensive summer program focusing on the practice of curation: material, digital, and imaginary. The program introduces traditional museum approaches and intensive object study while simultaneously investigating the "curatorial imaginary," an expanding field driven by developments in new media. In a digital environment free from the standard logistics of curating--budgets, loan paperwork, installation headaches, the laws of physics--what curatorial inventions might be possible?"-Hampshire College, Summer ProgramsAt the Institute for Curatorial Practice, we studied contemporary curation and how to implement it within modern technology. While utilizing the archives and museums of the surrounding five colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst) we focused on how to create an online exhibition while implementing critical, theoretical, and digital design skills. With the help of 4 others, my group worked together to create an online exhibition based on ideas and concepts inspired by artist Binh Danh's Iridescence of life #13 piece. Focusing on Landscape in Cambodia as a more than a physical manifestation but an active character in Cambodia's history we created an interactive site that is navigated through Robert Schultz Poem, Chankiri Tree. Within the poem are marked links that lead to separate galleries or essays each with a hidden message to tell. We invited our site visitors to contemplate the role of the landscape within history using Cambodia as a starting point.
