Specialising in road testing and special features, my aim is to create content that helps guide car buyers through their journey and make sense of our often jargon-laden industry. Utilising my decade of experience to accurately assess new or specialised classic cars, I regularly produce detailed written and video road tests. Sampling everything from the most humble of superminis to exotic prototype supercars gives me a good perspective on where a specific vehicle sits within its class. Managing content plans, organising test cars, and adhering to strict deadlines are also regular pillars of my role. YesAuto is a relatively new entity to automotive media, and so I have been able to help shape house styles and road testing methodology. Content needs to be both informative and engaging, with the reader’s needs at the forefront of its creation. The chance to collaborate with international colleagues from Germany and China is a rewarding challenge that presents a bounty of new opportunities for mutually beneficial content. Show less

A move to freelance work has presented many opportunities to provide strong automotive written and video content for clients. Combining my years of road testing everything from the latest supercars to rarified classics, I’ve used my experience to forge exciting features such as putting the iconic ‘Rambo Lambo’ up against its modern-day counterpart, driving the McLaren Senna at Estoril, telling the legendary Honda NSX story, testing the latest from Lotus on its home turf at Hethel, as well as… Show more A move to freelance work has presented many opportunities to provide strong automotive written and video content for clients. Contacts in just about every sector of the industry affords plenty of opportunity to get creative with the content I can offer. I have recently helped produce a book titled ‘The Concours Year’ which has become a real reference point for car collectors around the world. Working with the dedicated team at Hothouse Media, I was responsible for communicating with over 40 internationally famed concours events to collate a list of winning vehicles. Accurately identifying hundreds of cars and writing many of the concours’ introductory biographies was a big responsibility. I also regularly write for several print publications, including the premium automotive quarterly ‘Magneto’. Additionally, I contribute to Diesel Car & Eco Car Magazine each month, writing road tests and conducting longterm testing of the latest mainstream cars. From consumer advice on modest superminis to unique features, I humbly offer my services. Show less

In this role I was responsible for planning and creating unique enthusiast content for the website. Intriguing investigative history pieces, retro road tests, and putting potential future classic cars through their paces were my responsibilities. I also organised and structure the team of writers on all matters regarding features. AutoClassics rebranded as Motorious in 2019 after investment and a subsequent merger. My role expanded to include some news writing, alongside helping to train new additions to the team in features writing and road testing. A shock decision to make the UK editorial team redundant, and replace them with US counterparts, was totally unexpected. The UK team worked hard to launch, establish, and grow the AutoClassics/Motorious' authority. - Expanded my knowledge of the wider automotive industry - Responsible for all features content - Representing a brand at prestigious events Show less

Working under the direction of Jon Quirk, and alongside Vicky Parrott and Alex Goy, my previous experience as a journalist was enhanced by some of the best in the business. Attending global launches of new cars, my primary role was to assess the characteristics of the model in question and accurately convey to the reader/viewer its merits and flaws. Using different tones in my writing allowed me to communicate with the target audience in a manor that was both informative and engaging. Writing about vehicles ranging from supercars to superminis meant that it was essential to understand what the reader would find useful. Building on my previous experiences of presenting video, my time at Motor1 allowed me to work alongside video producers to create bespoke video content at a very high level. Road tests, a weekly news show and unique features enlightened a rapidly growing audience. A TV show was also being recorded with myself as a lead presenter of the Motor1 Show, alongside Jon Quirk on Motorsport TV (Freeview, Virgin Media, Sky). I was also responsible for growing Motor1’s social media presence. Creating unique features and campaigns, the various channels gained a strong following in a short period of time. Sadly a change of direction and restructuring within Motor1’s parent company resulted in the redundancy of its road testers. It was a sad end to my time with Motor1, but I came away more experienced, more capable and more determined. - Enhanced my journalistic abilities - Experience in professional video presenting to TV standards - Represented a global brand at motor shows and launch events Show less

Inside Lane’s popularity grew to the point where manufacturers would invite me on launches to be amongst the first to assess a new model alongside professional journalists. Years of hard work and learning my craft lead to Inside Lane being recognised alongside well established titles and was represented on the vast majority of car launches each year. Running a small team of journalists, my professionalism at a relatively young age was often remarked upon. My dream job had become my occupation, something that I am still immensely proud of today. I took the decision to invest in video equipment and start producing content on the popular YouTube platform. At this point automative video was in its infancy and Inside Lane was well positioned to take advantage of traditional media being slow to recognise the growing demand. Today Inside Lane has gained over 22.2 million views of its video content, and in some cases particular road tests are the most watched in the world. Continuous analysis of video data allowed me to understand my audience and continue to create popular content. It took a lot of sacrifice and determination to achieve what I did with Inside Lane, earning the respect of my fellow journalists and the PR teams. Ex-Auto Trader Editor-in-Chief Jon Quirk recognised my efforts over the preceding 5 years and asked me to join his 'dream team' of selected industry experts for a new automotive ventured named Motor1. - Became a strong writer and video presenter - Learned the importance of running an effective team of people - Worked with the majority of major car manufacturers - Gained key communication skills with manufacturers and journalists - Understood how to develop a winning strategy to gain an advantage over competitors Show less
