    • Professional General Music Teacher
      • May 2023 - Present

The general music teacher at Harmon Middle School is responsible for creating a welcoming & inclusive environment for all students while also creating engaging & culturally relevant music lessons. These lessons must also coincide with the Ohio Department of Education 5-6 Music Standards. The music teacher should cooperate with the music department of the Pickerington Local School District to facilitate & develop a curriculum map and new music ensembles for the district. This creates a strong curriculum based network between sister schools in the Pickerington Local School District while also facilitating a strong pathway between the elementary schools to the middle schools, and so on. Being a professional music teacher in the district requires the employee to build a strong and reliable rapport with their students. This will continue to allow your classroom to be inclusive with a heavy emphasis on meeting the high expectations & cultivating relationships on a student to teacher basis & a student to student basis. The music teacher is assigned up to five classes per summer and are responsible for creating lesson plans & a curriculum for those respective classes. During the WCSMS 2019 summer session, I was assigned to teach Introduction to Saxophone and Music Theory 1.In the 'Introduction to Saxophone' class the students spent three weeks learning about proper embrasure, posture, & breath support that are necessary to play the instrument well. The students also learned multiple pieces of beginning saxophone repertoire found in the 'Standards of Excellence: Comprehensive Band Method' textbook & were assessed on the repertoire based on proper embrasure, posture, breath support, phrasing, & articulation. In the Music Theory class, the students would learn about the fundamental concepts of music theory which would include: key signatures, time signatures, triads, chord progressions, and more. The students would then use these concepts to create a final composition which should include at least one key signature (except for C major), one form of simple meter, one form of compound meter, & the students should be able to fully explain their thought processes behind creating their composition. • May 2022 - Aug 2022

The beauty advisor was responsible for a variety of tasks & duties during their shift. It was always our number one priority to make sure that all customers were helped (regardless of what part of the store they were in or what product they were looking for). The last thing that we (as a team) want is for our customer to leave the store feeling unsatisfied with finding what they were looking for or with the help (or lack thereof) that they received while shopping. Another task that the beauty advisors were responsible for was making sure that the sales floor was always neat, presentable, & shopper friendly. The customer should always be able to find the product that they're looking for as easily & as quickly as possible. If the sales floor is left looking messy & unorganized, it can turn the customer away from browsing in a particular section of the store or from looking for a certain item. Though one customer may not be that many, the customer being turned away will immediately impact sales & the reputation of the store as a whole. One of the final tasks that beauty advisors were asked of during our shifts were to make sure that new & regular customers alike were signing up for the Ulta Rewards Benefits program & or the Ulta Rewards Credit Card. These two programs/items can help to drive sales when customers are looking for exceptional deals that can save them money. Making sure that our customers are as well informed as they can be can help them to make better financial decisions, and help to guide them towards what they want to spend their money on. Show less

    • Building Substitute
      • Mar 2021 - Jun 2022

A building substitute for the Moon Area School district reports to the district every single day, and is assigned a teacher to substitute for at the beginning of the day. This requires a teacher to be very versatile in their classroom management abilities because the social environment they walk into & the students they interact with everyday can be completely different each day. The building substitute will also be required to perform extra tasks to support the professional teachers, para-professional educators & administration of the district. These tasks can range from making copies for the secretary, briefly covering for a teacher during a short IEP meeting, or proctoring Pennsylvania State standardized exams. The responsibilities of a building sub are widely varied, but being able to proficiently complete them shows the abilities of a truly professional & skilled educator. During this time, I also spent 18 weeks as a short term Special Education Substitute which required me to work hands on with 8 students in the content areas of reading fluency, comprehension, mathematics, & science. During this time, I also attended several IEP meetings for my students & worked in cooperation with the Head of the High School Special Education Department in order to begin the process of concentrating all of the students’ IEP goals into one document for evaluation & potential modification (depending on the individual student’s progress). • Musical Vocal Director
      • Sep 2021 - Apr 2022

The vocal director works with three groups of students once a month on basic rhythmic & melodic content within the score, while also encouraging the use of proper vocal technique (correct posture, supporting higher/belted notes, preventing tension throughout the body, etc.) to prevent physical damage to the students' vocal chords & bodies. Working with three different groups of students on the same content allows the vocal director to correct or adjust their approach to the rehearsal if something doesn't go well during a rehearsal earlier in the week. This also allows for the educator to approach the groups differently on certain weeks if one group may be struggling with a certain skill set that another group may be excelling at. These responsibilities allow for the cast to perform the music in a healthy way while also having developed deep & lasting connections to their characters & cast members. Show less

This form of help may include keeping students on task, & modifying assignments in order for students to be more likely to be successful. In order for this to happen, the substitute must have a fundamental understanding of several neurodevelopmental & physical disorders. The substitute would also be responsible for completing all other tasks laid out within the lesson plan provided at the beginning of the day. Show less

    • Student Teacher
      • Oct 2020 - Dec 2020

This final student teaching placement took place at the McKnight Elementary School with Mrs. Amy Reese. Over the two and a half months in this position, the student teacher was responsible for creating lesson plans for elementary grades kindergarten through fifth grade which coincide with the 2014 NAFME music education standards. These lesson plans included elements of body percussion, solfege identification, rhythm identification, and movement-based activities. This observation culminated in a final observation from my cooperating teacher where the student teacher was tasked with teaching every class within the schedule for an entire week. This experience was also completed upon the submission of a work-study term paper which analyzed the performance of the student teacher, the learning patterns of the students in the examined grade-level, and taking the improvement of the students on the subject of rhythmic identification into account. This primary student teaching placement took place at the North Allegheny Intermediate High School with Mrs. Lisa Pontiere. Over the two and a half months in this position, the student teacher was responsible for creating lesson plans for ninth and tenth grade which coincide with the 2014 NAFME music education standards. These lesson plans included elements of vocal pedagogy (vowel shape, breath support, diction, etc.), solfege identification, rhythm identification, and the study of choral literature & the differentiating elements which reside in them. This observation culminated in a final observation from my cooperating teacher where the student teacher was tasked with teaching every class within the schedule for an entire week. This was a wonderful experience considering this age group is of my primary interest to teach in the near future, and I cannot wait to see how far these students continue to progress through their musical careers. I was the music director for the musical A Year with Frog and Toad at the Struther’s Library Theatre in Warren Pennsylvania. I ran bi-weekly music rehearsals with the cast with the goal of helping them learn the complex harmonies of the show, while also improving their performance skills through projection, stage presence, vocal support, & other various expressive controls. The show was, sadly, cancelled due to multiple people within the cast catching the COVID-19 virus. During the student teaching placement through the Conemaugh Township Area Middle & High School, I was mainly responsible for creating digital content due to the continuous spikes of COVID-19 throughout the United States. These spikes in COVID-19 restricted me from participating directly within the school district. This online content was created for a variety of classes such as Music Theory I, Music History, and for the High School Choral Ensemble.
