The workshop included writing press releases, talking points, working with the Ethiopian media, making documentary films, photography, using social media etc. In March 2009, I organized an event to mark International Women’s Day in collaboration with the US Embassy and the USAID Education team. Young female students who excelled in using their school mini-media to fight HIV/AIDS, raise awareness of Gender Based Violence, and promote reproductive health were recognized. Related responsibilities included; filming drought affected locations in the country and interviewing beneficiaries, drought affected population, government and humanitarian officers, preparing storyboards, editing digital film footage, selecting voice personalities, and coordinating audio voiceovers and underlying soundtracks and distributing the video to appropriate UN agencies and the humanitarian community. • Provided support to the DPPC Early Warning Department on improving the design and reporting quality of the Early Warning System report. • Maintain the UNOCHA website Major Accomplishments, At the beginning of the 2002 drought crisis when only Afar was affected and the humanitarian community was unaware of the depth of the livestock deaths in the area, undertook an immediate field trip to gather footage for a short film to describe the situation. Prepared and edited this film with short notice and was quickly shown at a special gathering of the donor community and UN agencies and was able to sway donors who did not believe the severity of the situation. Produced a short video entitled “Current Crisis in Hararghe” in August 2002 and was presented at the launch of a joint UN/government appeal in September. Prepared a short documentary film “Drought in Arsi”, to visualize the harvest failure in Arsi region. Edited a documentary film entitled “Drought 2002-2003” and was presented at the launching of the joint UN/Government appeal. Converted all videos to a CD format and distributed widely to the humanitarian community. Show less
