We cover 11 counties in central Florida. A challenge was keeping my staff motivated in an environment of little to no salary increases interspersed with benefit cuts/added duties. I always made my numbers and have been able to reduce my staff from a high of seven to four when I left. To do this I had to develop within my staff a pride in doing great work. This is accomplished by empowering them to make as many decisions as possible in the field and being the muscle when they feel that their directives are not being followed. My group has a great reputation for fairness and the primary concern is to resolve all issues before final acceptance of the project by the Department. program. I was also over the Asphalt Plant Verification Technicians. I reviewed their output daily and handled scheduling on a weekly basis, as well as being on call daily to find coverage in the event that paving was added to that days/nights activities. Show less
