      • Oct 2011 - Present

Presently I head up the Artisan Development programme for the Western Cape. This includes workplace opportunities, coach development, funding and funding proposals etc. My overall objective is to increase the development of relevant Artisanal skills to support economic development and job creation in growth sectors. The department contracted me in 2011 to design the Artisan Development Programme and in 2012 I was mandated to implement. To date I have leveraged R 32 000 000 to support this programme in collaboration with the South African Oil and Gas Alliance, W&R SETA, MERSETA and a number of private businesses. Further design has included the DEDAT Occupational Readiness Programme which will be implemented via the Technical and Schools of Skill in collaboration with the Schools of Skill Directorate WC and the National Artisan Moderating Board. It is imperative that we start professionalising Artisan Trades in order to attract more youth into this career development. Without this development the South African economy will not be able to decrease its youth unemployment rate nor increase it technical competiveness. The cost for skilled productive workers will increase and the South African economy will become more and more dependent on imported goods and services. This will not only have a devastating impact on the primary economy but will also decimate the tertiary economy on. The time for long meetings and talk shops are over and what we need is to implement programmes that enable, stimulated and support job creation for the youth of our beautiful country Show less
