Navigation Systems Engineer • As the principle maintainer for the Navigation Systems my roles and responsibilities primarily were: • Implementation of preventative, diagnostic and corrective maintenance programs for all navigation, degaussing and meteorological/oceanographic systems. Enabling the ship to perform to its highest capability when employed on operations, training serials and trials programs. The most recent being the removal of chemical weapons from Syria. • Provide capability of Electronic Warfare, Sonar and Military Tasking Equipment to the command while gapped primary maintainer. Support to the Combat Systems senior engineer in the upkeep of the respective equipment during maintenance and leave periods. • Provided initial diagnostics on defects for all equipment within the department during maintenance and leave periods, and to act as point of contact for contractors requiring access to equipment/compartments while the relevant engineer is unavailable. • Additional role as the middle manager/team leader for selected junior engineers within my division. This encompasses looking after their welfare, mentoring, delivering training schedules for ratings on relevant section equipment and providing reports on individual performance for annual promotion reports. Making sure all potential hazards have been identified and relevant action taken.• Building Fire Safety Officer – ensuring the buildings allocated to DRSO conformed to MOD Fire and Safety policies as laid down in Naval Base Standing Orders and directives.• Building facilities manager – liaising with dockyard authorities for the majority of issues etc. relating to DRSO holdings.
