Supported security operations protecting Kandahar airfield. Coordinated intelligence collection plan on Afghan population patterns of life to identify weapons smuggling efforts. Contributed to the longest period in Kandahar airfield’s history without a rocket attack during the fall of 2013. Selected to attend Joint Fires Observer Course at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; became qualified to coordinate for Close Air Support and Close Combat Attack strikes by fixed and rotary-wing attack aircraft. Trained in Afghan artillery procedures for the Soviet-era D-30 Howitzer and cross-cultural advising techniques in exercises with the Ukrainian military and U.S. Army role-players. Inducted into the Order of the Golden Spur and received the Army Commendation Medal for service in Afghanistan.
