I had the opportunity to work with Trent Manchester when he was a student in my senior Housing and Urban Development Studio at Arizona State University. As a senior studio, this is typically the most challenging class in the program with tight deadlines and high expectations. Trent performed very well. Right from our first meeting it was clear how grounded he is. There is an earthiness about him that comes both from a deep respect of nature and of those around him. This respect was evident when he would take even subtle comments to heart, and responded to meet the challenge almost instantly. This response may also come from his eagerness to grow. Trent not only wants to learn new things, he loves to find a practical application for them. For him, it is not knowledge for its own sake or for wealth or power, but rather finding new tricks and techniques to hone his skills like a master craftsman. The studio class required weekly analysis of a project coupled with the creation of a site plan. Because Trent is so grounded, he was able to take his ego out of these projects entirely, which is rare for a young designer. He would artfully and cleverly compose a site plan and then make it clear and easy to understand, even if you were not in our industry. To accompany it he would create an executive summary of his results that any project manager would be both proud of and thankful for. These one-page reports were always concise and full of useful details from his work. Trent demonstrates this same professionalism when he presents. He is brief and factual and cares more about satisfying the needs of the task at hand than explaining how cleaver his solution is. To complete our class, Trent needed to take on a semester-long real estate development business proposal. He struggled to find the right property, and while any property would have done, he wanted to make an earnest proposal, not just an academic one. When he found the right site, he used it to shape and guide his entire proposal, not only in the site plan, but also in the business proposal and the graphics he used to express his ideas. When he was finished, the proposal had a genuine integrity. I am certain that Trent Manchester’s talent and professionalism will make him a valuable addition to any real estate development team that prides itself on craftsmanship and respect. I myself, look forward to working with him again.

The Bachelor of Science in Design (BSD) degree with a major in Housing and Community Development educates and prepares entry-level real estate development professionals for positions of leadership and influence in market rate and affordable housing developments, in creatively designed and thoughtfully planned neighborhoods and communities, in the revitalization of blighted communities, and in the exemplification of inclusiveness, sustainability, and environmental sensitivity found within responsible real estate developments. Housing and Community Development graduates may pursue careers in all facets of real estate development including private housing development, publicly sponsored housing and community redevelopment, nonprofit housing agencies, or in postgraduate housing and community development research and education. During my senior year I completed a real estate development business proposal, in which I developed a 14.5 acre multifamily residential community in Fountain Hills, Arizona, which I dubbed Arrowhead Point. Upon finding my site I designed a site plan that intricately worked with the unique topography of the area as well as implementing an architectural system that would creatively manipulate building height and mass in order to capture the cultivating beauty of the wonderful desert environment. While conceptual, I still worked within the zoning codes of the City of Fountain Hills, to accurately design both my site plan and my buildings to today’s standards and requirements. Additionally, I created a financial pro-forma that was used to display how my project would be funded and how to obtain a healthy return for investors and financial institutions. If you would like to talk to me about my project, please feel free to contact me anytime. Show less

Manchester Architects, Inc. is a company that prides itself on a positive relationship between the Architect and the Client. Their biggest philosophy is that the Architect must first listen, then find the ideas that accomplish the individual goals of each client on their particular site and do so with the highest possible level of service. While I was working for them, I was considered a Draftsman and an office assistant. Most of my responsibilities included typical red-lining, directed special definition, 3D modeling of existing drawings, occasionally some initial design work, plotting, and general office upkeep. I was often involved with many different design projects in a variety ways, many of which required cooperation and collaboration between teams of architects, engineers, and contractors. Show less
