Tim Donnison, DPhil

Trent and I realised there was an unmet need for postgraduate students in our Oxford college, St Edmund Hall, to communicate their research to the general public and develop their communication skills. To address this need, we co-founded the College's first online journal, 'Ex Aula', to showcase research in layman's terms articles. We served as co-Editors-in-Chief for two years whilst we grew the project and now the journal is thriving as a popular public engagement option for students and college fellows, covering subject topics from climate change and space exploration to cybersecurity and political ideologies. Through the project, we established an important public engagement platform, a means to integrate different faculties and fields in public debate, and a tool for students to develop their written communication skills.
