I have known Treena since she published her first book, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her at the Advocate for Children and Youth. She is fun and fun-loving, and has an enormous passion for her work with children and youth, which shows so clearly in everything she does. I learned so much from her when I worked with her, and would love the opportunity to do so again.

Executive Director duties are crucial in terms of leadership and management. It holds many responsibilities that are essential to the sustainability of the agency. As an Indian Child and Family Service agency possessing strong overall knowledge in child welfare is required. Our agency consists of three First Nation communities: Big River First Nation, Pelican Lake First Nation and Witchekan Lake First Nation. Working in collaboration with the leadership and band members is most beneficial when developing community resources, services and programs in these communities. An Executive Director must create a clear vision that is shared with others in order to provide unity within the agency and communities. Responsible and effective ways to do this include: listening to the community's feedback and needs, supporting change within the community and connecting with resources in the community and assessing how to work in partnership with them. An effective Executive Director can drive a vision by using personal skills such as listening, communicating, evaluating and driving a team enthusiastically towards a common goal. As an Executive Director I need to be able to anticipate where the agency is going and maintain the integrity of agency by ensuring it follows its purpose and mission statement. Another responsibility of this Executive Director position is human resources such as hiring and managing staff. This includes making sure programs are effectively run and staff are fulfilling their responsibilities. Making hard decisions and critical choices are also a daily occurrence. Listening open-mindedly and communicating effectively with my team is part of the decision-making process. As an Executive Director I am responsible for making daily and monthly financial decisions. It is crucial to understand how to manage finances and generate financial statements that reflect the goals and purpose of the Agency. I am the face and spokesperson for agency. Show less

Working with children and youth by addressing their development needs through appropriate support services. Promoting positive behavior and lifestyle practices to high risk youth. Negative or self-harming behaviors are just symptoms of an underlying problem and not the real problem at all. Supervisory duties including training and mentoring new workers, reaching the agency's objectives in child welfare, managing crisis and defining responsibilities while providing supervisory support. I have joined the amazing Penney Murphy & Associates team who specialize in achieving your life's potential. My passion as a counselor is dealing with problematic-eating, distorted eating behaviors and lifestyle coaching. I also work with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, stress management, parent-teen conflict and women going through the "change" of life. My favorite topic is food and moods. With the landscape of modern foods that are convenient and mass-produced in conjunction with experiencing chronic stress due to our hectic lifestyles, we are changing the health of our future generation. Dieting and highly restrictive eating also has a dramatic impact on our moods and not in a good way. I try to move my clients away from their obsession with the number on the scale and towards overall well-being. Show less
