I'm a first officer flying the Embraer 175 for United Express. We do mostly domestic flying but there are also a lot of international flying to both Mexico and into Canada. I assist in the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft along with passenger comfort. I'm a first officer flying the Embraer 175 for United Express. I fly Cessna 402-C’s that carry passengers on regularly scheduled routes throughout the Northeast Midwest and Caribbean. I held the base in up state New York for two summers, where I did most of the work. Prior bases have also included Hyannis, MA, Haggerstown, MD, Quincy, IL, Cape Girardeau, MO, Massena, NY, Saint Thomas, USVI and the small country of Nevis (apart of Saint Kitts in the West Indies island chain.) International experience includes flights to many Caribbean island nations where we had to deal with immigration and customs on a regular basis. Cape Air is a Part 135 operation. The 402-C's are operated as a single pilots. Therefore, I am responsible for 100% of all cockpit activity. On occasion we will have first officers and must delegate responsibilities to them to work as a crew. Although these 402-C's are equipped with auto-pilots, the flights are typically hand-flown most of the time. Instrument flying is required quite frequently since we operate at much lower altitudes and in foggy coastal areas. By being the only pilot aboard this means that I am also the only ‘face’ of the company that passengers see after they are greeted by the gate agent. I take that responsibility with pride and strive to make every flight a positive experience so that the customers enjoy their experience. We also sell commuter book tickets where the passenger has the option of buying tickets in groups of 10, so we get "regulars" that we get to know more on a personal level which I enjoy. Cape Air is one of the largest independent regional airlines in the United States flying over 680,000 passengers a year with over 125,000 flights to destinations around the world including New England, New York, the Caribbean, Montana, the Midwest and Micronesia with a fleet of over 60 Cessna 402's 3 Britten-Norman Islander and two ATR-42's.
