I am a litigator and counselor primarily representing manufacturers, distributors and sellers of products, business owners and their insurers in injury, death and property damage claims. I have developed national and regional defense strategies for our manufacturing and contracting clients in product liability and toxic tort cases, and have represented clients in formal and informal meetings with governmental agencies responsible for product safety. I have spoken on a number of issues that affect my clients, including on Product Liability Verdict Formulation to the Wisconsin Defense Counsel and the Milwaukee Bar Association, on Daubert's application in Wisconsin's courts to the Wisconsin Civil Justice Council and the Wisconsin Defense Counsel, and on Wrongful Death claims in Wisconsin. I have been active in the Defense Research Institute Fire Science Litigation Group and currently sit on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Defense Counsel. As a result of the national scope of our practice I maintain connections to experts, consultants and local attorneys across the country, which pays dividends for my clients in terms of early notice of claims, practical tips for other jurisdictions and changes in the law that may affect a particular client. I keep our clients informed as to developments in their cases and claims as they occur, and ensure that any decision that will have a meaningful impact on the outcome of the claim or case is understood and approved by the client. I believe that understanding the people involved in each claim is as important a step as any other. I develop strategies in each case based on my understanding of client's needs and wishes, the law, the court and the people involved. Show less

Judicial Law Clerk -- Civil Division
-
2000 - 2002
My primary responsibility was analysis of all dispositive motions into memo format for the Court's consideration. Additionally I analyzed any other legal issue requested by the Judge, and acted as bailiff for jury trials. For two years I spent breaks and lunch hours with the juries of Milwaukee County, and although discussion of the case was forbidden I had a unique opportunity to observe the dynamic of dozens of empaneled juries. I also regularly observed voir dire and all phases of trial practice, and was able to discuss with the Court and released jurors what was effective and what was not effective in each side's presentation.
