I had the pleasure of working with Travis at Rebellion Defense where we teamed on a an extremely complex software product. Travis is an incredible teammate who does far more than his fair share of the work yet takes much less than his fair share of the credit. I have been consistently impressed by his technical prowess and dedication to delivering high-quality solutions. Travis possesses an extensive knowledge of various programming languages, including Terraform, Go, Helm Charts, C++, and C. His proficiency in these languages is evident in his ability to develop robust and efficient software solutions. From a technical perspective, Travis differentiates himself in deploying software. His deep understanding of Kubernetes allows him to effectively manage containerized applications and orchestrate complex deployments. He is adept at configuring and maintaining scalable infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring smooth and seamless deployment processes. Travis's expertise in Helm Charts enables him to streamline the deployment of applications on Kubernetes, making the entire process more efficient and manageable even when we faced platform specific challenges and customer hardware issues. One of Travis's most remarkable qualities is his ability to work directly with customers at their offices. His excellent communication skills and personable nature allow him to build strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique requirements and translating them into tangible software solutions. Travis's customer-centric approach and attention to detail have consistently resulted in highly satisfied clients. In addition to his technical skills, Travis demonstrates outstanding problem-solving abilities. He approaches challenges with a systematic and analytical mindset, always striving to find the most efficient and effective solutions. He is more than willing to team to solve a problem and his dedication and commitment to delivering exceptional results are commendable. Travis has repeatedly proven himself to be a reliable and valuable team member. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Travis McLane for any role that requires full stack support of building and deploying software. His technical proficiency, customer-oriented approach, and strong work ethic make him an invaluable asset to any organization.

Improved the local development experience for Pivotal Cloud Foundry developers looking to deploy their software onto Kessel Run’s Kubernetes clusters. Plan, implement, and maintain the log aggregation and viewing infrastructure utilizing Amazon’s OpenDistro variant of the ElasticSearch / Kibana stack. GitOps methodology is used for all configuration and sealed secrets which are stored in a Git repository for application to the relevant target clusters. Supported Agile DevOps implementation of application logs and audit logs so that they are indexed separately using the logstash format and index naming conventions when applications are ready to migrate to kubernetes. Terraform was written to add additional AWS infrastructure to enable intra- cluster mTLS communication. Show less

Converted the Zimbra monolithic Java application to be container native and runnable on the Kubernetes container runtime. A highly-available LDAP server was implemented using multi- master replication and made available to the application. Session stickiness was implemented through the use of an Nginx plugin to direct all traffic for a single user to the assigned mailbox pod. This includes simultaneous use of IMAPS, POP3S, SMTP, and the Zimbra Mail XML based API. Helped implement a replicated MySQL cluster using Galera and an external microservice to coordinate leader election at runtime. Helped implement ELK stack logging aggregation solution to improve auditability. Tracked all changes in Git source control. Show less

Integrated the Mezeo cloud storage platform (CSP) as a storage feature of the Zimbra Collaboration Platform. Leveraged Helm, Docker, and Docker Compose to improve debuggability and increase developer iteration. Supported DevOps implementation for Zimbra products as part of Agile team. Converted a Microsoft SQL based “cloud storage” software stack written in Java to run in Docker/Linux. Interfaced with cloud providers APIs. Utilized the Riak key/value store to store file metadata along with indexing the data in ElasticSearch to support hierarchical access. Implemented the administrative API for the Mezeo Cloud Storage Platform in accordance with the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) to allow for storage and accounts to be managed through the use of CDMI objects. Blob storage was made agnostic through the use of a storage plugin system. Implemented a local file storage plugin to store data on Linux partitions utilizing a fanout pattern to avoid placing too many files in a single directory. An additional encryption plugin supporting CBC and ECB encryption modes was implemented such that it could wrap any other plugin and transparently encrypt/decrypt any data stored or retrieved from the wrapped plugin. Worked on ensuring that a single containerized ElasticSearch shard was not overburdened with a single user’s files by writing a program in Erlang that automatically rebalanced the shards and split out the relevant records to a new index.
