The need for robust antimicrobial and disinfectant testing is ever apparent with the rise in antimicrobial resistance and quick spread of infections as witnessed during the pandemic. BluTest are a contract research organisation here to assist in all your testing needs. We offer all aspects of antimicrobial testing, including standardised EN/ISO/ASTM biocide efficacy testing, R&D product development and biofilm testing. We also offer GMP disinfection qualification studies and medical device assessment. Show less

Utilising knowledge gained during my PhD to assist clients with biofilm testing. Microorganisms often prefer to exist as a biofilm and within this community of cells there is a mutualistic existence which is more resistant to eradication. Society is in desperate need for new antimicrobials due to the rise in antimicrobial resistance, and BluTest are committed to offering assays which are designed to closer mimic real life challenges to antimicrobials and better test these in a pre-clinical setting, with the aim to limit clinical trial failure. My role has been dedicated to managing client relationships and requirements, utilising already published and developed methods, as well as designing bespoke assays where required. Extensive lab experience, including classic microbiology and molecular techniques, data analysis, report writing and client interaction are some key skills utilised. Show less

Commercialising Complex Biofilms of Medical, Industrial and Environmental importance in collaboration with Blutest Laboratories and University of Glasgow. My PhD has focussed upon the commercialisation of a variety of different biofilms models. I have worked with biofilms linked to the oral cavity, marine and textile industry. My main aim within my thesis was to assess the role of C. albicans within plaque and how this affects treatment outcomes in-vitro. Additionally, a novel biofilm growth technique was assessed to facilitate further commercialisation of these models, which proved successful in a commercial study. Biofilm service work was carried out at Blutest laboratories in conjunction with Unilever and Innovate UK. Show less

During a six-month pause of PhD study, work was undertaken within BluTest laboratories to complete additional biofilm knowledge transfer and biofilm model work. This secondment allowed additional work to be undertaken within the Unilever/BluTest collaboration under the multi-center Innovate UK grant. This work focussed on biofilm inhibition and disruption testing using a novel agent on a variety of surfaces from steel, textiles and plastics with various class 2 organisms. This work required constant model development and problem-solving skills to overcome challenges faced within the project. Timely completion of the work was achieved allowing the project to move into the next phase unhindered alongside a successful patent application. Additionally, during this time, line management of two scientists in related work was also undertaken. This involved liaising directly with the client to ensure new protocols were suitable for use, organising the scientist’s schedules and lab requirements based upon experimental needs.. Show less

I was previously employed within the red cell team developing manual blood typing and antibody identification assays into automated processes for a novel microarray platform being developed within MosaiQ. My role required travel to Switzerland to implement the new changes to scripts and rectify issues within the liquid handling Tecan robot. Skills such as working towards management and client deadlines, working within an ISO accredited quality management system and extensive work within a clean room environment and GMP site were developed during my time here. I also had the opportunity to undergo internal training in effective presentation giving and six sigma introductions. Show less
