      • Jun 2011 - Jul 2016

I led the City's first Public Engagement Unit where I hired and supervised a team of specialists to fulfill City needs for digital and in-person engagement. My team and I supported every City department with strategic engagement process design, public opinion surveying and analysis, digital engagement tool identification and testing, 'outside the box' event coordination, and high impact social media outreach.I implemented innovative engagement activities for a diversity of programs, from award-winning projects like the West End Community Plan (PIBC Gold 2014) and municipal election outreach (CPRS 2015) to contentious bike lane and social housing projects. The results: • Developed unique City roles and recruited top talent to create an amazing team • Significantly increased online participation rates through the use of an online survey and community panel tool, Talk Vancouver. In 2015 over 37,000 people responded to 47 surveys.• Increased growth and engagement in social media by creating a specialized role and increasing channel effectiveness for access to public information, including emergencies.• Proactively engaged residents in hard-to-reach communities and in multiple languages by developing the Pop-up City Hall mobile outreach unit program.• Popularized public involvement through innovative events like design competitions, Pecha Kuchas, Doors Open, using interactive games, and incorporating digital kiosks and graphic facilitation at City events. To support program success, I worked with the IAP2 to create a national network of municipal engagement practitioners to share best practices, and worked with City Council to create a local advisory committee of residents to shape outreach policy.I evaluated the impact of the City's outreach and presented quarterly reports to management and an annual update to Council. As a manager, I was fully responsible for annual business unit planning, project and budget management.
