Safer Accommodation Lead

Aug 2013 - Present
The Safer Accommodation project is part of the Whole Essex Community Budget Domestic Abuse project. The role is to improve the services to Domestic Abuse survivors and victims across the whole County from Accommodation providers. these include local district authorities, registered providers, refuges and tenancy related support providers. There are at least 25 different organisations and 6 key work streams to this project. My role is to standardise the availability and access to services, avoid duplication, and reduce overall budget costs as a result. I am working with the County Housing Related Support team and the Safeguarding team to integrate the work into the changes and services that they provide. I am also working with the PCC's office to ensure that the changes are embedded into the cultural structure of Housing organisations. Show less

Specialist Homelessness Advisor
-
Sep 2007 - Mar 2013
The Advisor role was originallty set up to assit local housing authorities to meet the Government Temporary Accommodation Targets. The role developed into a more supporting role for local authorities and became a conduit between Central Government and the district authorities. We interpreted national policy and work with authorities to put the policy into action. I worked on the Mortgage rescue scheme, Rough Sleeper initiatives, Squatters toolkits and many other initiatives. I represented DCLG on the Home Offices Quality Assurance panel for Domestic Homicide Reviews. This role continues even though the Advisor role finished. I have also conducted many Peer Reviews of Services, examining the way the local authority provides its housing needs services and works with partners. I have made many recommendations for service improvement and contributed to the implementation of the improvements. Show less
