  Help clients to get the correct help for the problems they face in the fastest possible time. Assess people’s needs either over the phone or face-to-face whilst observing the bureau’s policies and procedures, particularly in relation to confidentiality, data protection and conflicts of interest, and identify the most appropriate source of help, whether it be assisted information, signposting or referring to another agency. This process involves exploring a client’s problem, assessing the risk and urgency according to capacity, vulnerabilities and time limits, identifying appropriate next steps, giving the appropriate information to the client and writing up an appropriate case record for future reference. This role is voluntary, but includes a fully funded comprehensive training course on subjects such as dealing with clients from all backgrounds and ethnicity, promoting equality and diversity, anti-discrimination, client care and an overview of the welfare system, employment, family, debt and credit, consumer, housing and immigration law.
