As a Naturalist at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, I lead and create programming that focuses on wetland education and the specific flora, fauna and history of the Hayward area salt marshes. I teach students ranging in age from preschool to high school and lead age-appropriate field trips for them. In the summer I plan and lead week-long day camps for children, and am a co-leader for our Father's Day overnight campout for families, for which I partner with Hayward Shoreline EBRPD staff. On the weekends I engage with and educate visitors to the Interpretive Center and also lead interpretive programs for both children and families as well as adults. I've also started a "Roving Naturalist" program where I lead interpretive programs at other Hayward Area Recreation and Park District parks, including a Citizen Science program and an interpretive fungus walk. In addition to these duties, I'm in charge of our volunteer/community service program called Restoration Rangers, and have engaged local students and clubs as volunteers for invasive plant removal and litter pick-up on the shoreline. Much of this has been funded by a grant from the California Coastal Conservancy. Finally, I have also been taking care of our resident reptiles and I manage our social media accounts. Show less

I taught children (and adults) about science and nature and presented live animals (reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates) to them in classes and at public fairs and festivals. These lessons involved hand-on activities and student-led approaches to enrich the experience for my students. I led interpretive nature walks for children, families and adults and discussed our observations in an entertaining and informative fashion. I also co-developed and co-led the innovative Digital Nature camps for middle-schoolers, which married nature exploration with digital photography and social media. I managed the social media and online marketing and designed the current website. Show less
