After departing Patersons Securities, my focus was: • Keeping abreast of financial market events – both at the macro and stock-specific levels. This was achieved by a daily process of (1) reading the financial press, headed by the Australian Financial Review (2) seeking out evolving Australian and offshore markets-related stories showing up on a range of web sites and (3) regular contact with financial market players in my network. • Compiling a number of market/investment outlook reports covering off on the economic challenges presenting - some of these issues being amplified by the economic dislocation wrought by COVID-19. • Retaining my RG146 designation by keeping up to date with my CPD points requirements. I fulfilled my FY19 and FY20 requirements via a combination of Kaplan courses and attendance of additional CPD (webinars. To help attain the hours needed to keep RG146 - and my Senior Fellow of FINSIA qualification - I retained an individual subscription to Kaplan.

      • Apr 2007 - Feb 2019

Over my time with Patersons (and Tolhurst, which was acquired by Patersons in early 2009) I held a number of roles, dependent on market conditions and staffing levels. The roles performed over my time at Patersons were: • Economist, analyzing specific local and offshore stats, overnight market happenings and a sway of specialized topics. • Strategist, with my views here formulated via analysis of macro-economic/sector developments as well as bottom-up fundamentals. • Bottom-up research on companies (usually around six) to bolster house stock coverage and/or corporate work flow. • Thematic-oriented reports, looking at sector and stock stories at different points in stock and economic cycles. • Mouth-piece for the group on economic and stock market developments. I regularly gave presentations to client groups on a wide range of topics, such as macro-economic conditions, developments in macro-driven sectors (including banking, mining, retail, energy and housing) and portfolio construction. Media coverage: I regularly undertook media spots on business-focused television channels Your Money (previously Sky Business), CNBC and ABC Channel 24. I also received ample coverage in the print media and wires services, with regular mentions in the financial pages of the Australian Financial Review, SMH/Age and the Australian as well as in stories released by Bloomberg and AAP/Reuters.

Following completion of my Masters degree, I commenced work as an assistant banking analyst at LM Equities, a JV between Peter Leodaritsis and Roy Morgan Research. The latter’s 50% share-holding was subsequently sold to St George Bank and the firm’s name changed to Assirt Equities Research. In mid calendar 2002 St George sold down its stake, necessitating another name change (to Aegis Equities Research). Assistant Analyst – Banking & Finance – August 1999 – August 2000 • The author/co-author for several larger publications distributed to institutional clients as well as shorter notes examining implications of newsworthy events. • The provision of views/commentary in morning meetings on the attractiveness of various finance-oriented stocks. • Initiating coverage of a number of smaller companies on the shareanalysis.com Web site. Analyst – Miscellaneous Industrials – August 2000 – March 2007 • The above-mentioned coverage of small-cap stocks evolved into ongoing analysis of a range of small- to mid-cap Australian industrials. • I developed, from scratch, the company’s coverage of agricultural stocks. • From late 2003, staff movements saw me progressively take over coverage of the major Australian Building Materials, Steel and Contractor stocks. • For 5+ years I compiled the Overnight Markets and the Australian Markets reports, I also, from time to time prepared economics-related briefing notes (e.g. on the Federal budget).
