This has been a great opportunity to share the passion and enthusiasm that I have for my degree in the hope that more young people will become interested in studying engineering at both an Undergraduate and Postgraduate level!

After graduating from Southampton I will then pursue my career as an Air Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm.Whilst studying towards the BEng in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering, I am also a Royal Navy Reservist and have made the most of every opportunity that the Armed Forces has presented to me so far. I not only represent the Royal Navy in sport, I have also gained training qualifications in areas such as sailing and rock climbing.During my time in Southampton, I have spent 4 weeks with the Fleet Air Arm in two separate Air Stations learning more about the management and engineering aspects of my future role as an Air Engineer Officer. This has allowed me to get to grips with what will soon be expected of me as a young Officer and also to learn more about the maintenance of both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft within a military environment. Each event was extremely different to the next and required a large amount of planning. This was my first real experience of the true importance of both time and project management, even if it was… My roles included leading a team of up to 12 people for any one event and managing events catering for up to 200 people, mainly wedding receptions. This position gave me a huge amount of experience in the management of a small group of staff, many of whom had never worked together previously. Each event was extremely different to the next and required a large amount of planning. This was my first real experience of the true importance of both time and project management, even if it was on a very small and rapid scale.Working in the hospitality industry, even if only for a short period, enabled me to become familiar with both the requirement for excellent customer service and also the importance of good social skills when working with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
