Tonbridge, United Kingdom Outside of my duties on the group board, I spent this epoch of my career focused on Master of Malt as MD. In this period we grew by over £10M (over a third), so I must have done something right. Tunbridge Wells There's a lot going on in this job title. The reality is that, as directors in a rapidly growing business, we all have to muck in everywhere. These happen to be the things that I mostly do, but that doesn't mean that occasionally the other directors won't get involved in these areas, and that I won't get involved in operations, sales, web development, product development, or elsewhere. Marketing: The marketing team, over the years, have been a significant part of the phenomenal growth of the business, and have done it all in a creative and exciting way (https://www.masterofmalt.com/Blog/post/An-ISC-Trophy-for-Master-of-Malts-WhiskySanta.aspx). As Director I get to indulge the nerd in me, I can get creative, I can think and plan long term and I can do it in a unconventional way if I so wish. Which is lucky, because I love all that. I'm also lucky to have a great team of people who can reign me in, clean up after me and make me look good. Analytics: This is an opportunity to keep our hand in in 'great big corporate land' and to remind us that it has a lot to offer in terms of best practice, professional rigour and sheer scale of opportunity. We're incredibly proud that we've been able to help some of the biggest and best become even bigger and better. Again, I'm basically made to look good by some very talented and exceptionally hard-working people who have delivered cutting-edge systems and solutions to the delight of our clients. HR: Who'd have thought it? Me. HR. It turn out that there's room for a very technical and analytical approach to HR, so long as you have people on hand that can put the 'H' in HR. We neglected this during the early years whilst we held on for dear life during our rapid growth, to our shame. We're getting there now though, and we have a set of values which run through every bit of our business, and programs for personal and professional development which are coming along nicely.
