Reporting to the associate Professor. Perform research study on Photoactive/Magnetic Molecular Sieves. The research project involved the synthesis of organic and inorganic ligands a.k.a. metal organic frameworks (highly porous crystalline structures) under anhydrous conditions. Liaised with other departments within the University (School of Chemistry) to receive expertise knowledge and collavorate on problem solving. The equipment used included X-ray powder diffraction, infra-red, UV-Vis and NMR. At the conclusion of the project a presentation was given to the reseaech team and the examinator. The aim of the research was to selectively capture gas molecules such as Oxygen, Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide depending on the type of synthetised crystal used. The gas molecules would be captured or released by radiating specific wavelength at the crystals or use of magnets to change the crystalline structure. Show less

Reporting to the research supervisor. Performed research on the separation of sugars under anhydrous conditions. Conducted a combinations of cellulose reactions suspended in ionic liquid under different temperature over time. Subsequently followed by liquid chromatography to separate the glucose from ionic liquid to determine the yield. The research was concluded in a presentation. Reporting to the research supervisor.
