Tom is an excellent coder that has shown a very high aptitude with JavaScript (including modern ES6/ES8 conventions), Ruby (particularly modern Ruby on Rails), and has demonstrated time and again that he can learn new languages as needed with little effort. He is able to tackle tough data structure problems, and often comes up with more efficient algorithms and cleaner code than most developers in the industry. Tom is quite good with server-side development, he also has many strong skills on the front-end. He is quite capable with CSS3/SASS and has built many sites using CSS frameworks like Bootstrap. An all around excellent worker with tons of creative energy and many tech tools under his belt, Tom comes highly recommended!

Managed our on-premises datacenter consisting of a bottom-to-top infrastructure providing secure business applications to improve company productivity. Primarily ran applications on our virtual infrastructure (VMware/vCenter, migrated to XCP-ng/Xen Orchestra), and some on physical servers. Applications included Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2, and ultimately Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services/Terminal Server for desktop services for remote users. Other servers primarily running CentOS 7 or Alma Linux 8, running Roundcube for webmail, WeKan for project management, Gitea for git version control, FreeIPA for identity management, Samba for file sharing, Nextcloud for third-party/external file sharing, and even a custom Ruby on Rails application, etc. Performed upgrades from less-usable, out-of-date, insecure, and unsupported applications and operating system platforms to more usable, up-to-date, secure, and supported applications and operating system platforms to improve security, usability, and manageability. Developed user-friendly company intranet landing page in Ruby on Rails which directly connected to our FreeIPA LDAP server to display contact information about company employees, contractors, and other partners. Developed CMD, PowerShell, and VBS scripts to automate and log backups and restores, application installation, firewall configuration, etc. Provided on-site service to configure software, diagnose and repair computers for various customers - including customers with special accessibility needs (deaf, hard of hearing, blind or otherwise visually-impaired). Built a self-hosted OpenVPN and VNC remote access solution (secured with an internal PKI certificate issuance system) to remotely administer client's computers, most of which reside in Cheyenne, WY, but some in Laramie, WY and Fort Collins, CO - and some even as far as Guanajuato, Mexico. Setup, configured, and managed Windows Server 2008-2019 Active Directory domains, Group Policy, OpenVPN, CIFS/SMB shares with NTFS permissions, and Exchange for small business clients with 5-10 users each.
