  In this position, I generally supports risk analysis and mapping as well as DRR policy development for the Nairobi City by focusing on flood risks within informal settlements of Nairobi, with a high resolution for the Mukuru Special Planning Area (SPA) based on the Theory of Change. Using state of the art research techniques, i develop robust flood risk and hazard mapping techniques on Mukuru and assess the potential interventions being proposed as part of the SPA. I am also the contact person of the hub to the global Risk Nexus Initiative (RNI) coordinated by the UN-HABITAT where i will coordinate the Hub engagement activities and collaboration in this space. The purpose of flood Risk modelling are: To understand the current levels of flood susceptibility across Nairobi and within Mukuru; To determine the drivers of past flood events and potential future events; and Assess the change in likelihood of these drivers in future climate conditions based on climate change scenarios.

  I worked as part of a team to conduct research activities relating to climate change impacts on water resources and assessing the impacts of the development corridors on on socioeconomic and biodiversity in Kenya. I also assisted in the project activities relating to climate change adaptation, mitigation, impact assessment and projections. My roles include data collection and gathering, literature review, report writing, data analysis, presentation and bits of administration work. I also participate in the research planning, field work, workshops, conferences and preparation of publications with the partner institutions in the UK, Tanzania and China.

  I lead a team of fellow researchers and support team to conduct a study aimed at constructing an updated profile of the Ewaso Nyiro Basin in Kenya by examining the livelihoods trends, land use and population trends. The study also assess policy, ecosystem and landscape challenges across the basin by looking at how the population interact with natural resources within the basin with the focus of documenting key challenges and opportunities and what can be done to restore the ecosystem health of basin.

  I am responsible for coordinating and supporting work under the Climate Resilient Economies Program. I provide technical input as well as perform administrative functions in research and policy development related to the program. Through the program, I have also been supporting research activities on the A Systems Approach to Air Pollution in East Africa (ASAP) project and the Africa Sustainability Hub. I have significantly played a role in the Shaping African cities project, the development of the AU-Green Innovation Framework, the inception of the Multi-hazard Urban Risk Transition Hub in Nairobi, the UK-Kenya Research Symposium 2019 and the training on Pathways to Agricultural Sustainability in Africa. In collaboration with the Kenya Market trust, i played a significant role in Contextualizing Pathways to Resilience in ASALs under the Big Four Agenda research study. Most of the Research projects are GCRF funded.
