I currently work at John Taylor& Co. where I design fabricated steel and cast iron frames for full circle swinging bells, chiming bells, and carillons, internationally and in the UK.My role includes site measurement visits, to ensure accurate measurements for fitment in the tower, and liaising with customers to ensure design changes are approved. In my design role I am responsible for the complete frame design and specification, from initial layout to providing manufacturing drawings to fabricators and foundry men, as well as providing specification steel lists to be ordered for the project. I also oversee all the frames as they are erected for trial assembly and troubleshoot any problems. In the past year John Taylor & Co. has been called upon to design and build a couple of new claviers for carillons in Australia, and I have been responsible for the updating and improving of the design so that it can be manufactured more easily and cost effectively. This new design will now form the basis of the current generation of carillon claviers as well as being developed to include sensors and electronics so that it can also be used for future practice claviers.
