This where I learned CNC programming, setups, G-Code, etc. GD was a great place to learn if you took advantage of the training programs in place at the time. Offered but not required were CNC programming classes, plane trigonometry classes, as well as advance CNC programming classes. I started out in maintenance learning the basic use of Bridgeport mills and turning using a Clausing engine lathe. I had learned to make parts for the equipment used in production when the equipment failed and needed replacement parts. I was also taught some basic skills for heat treating to case harden wear parts as well. In just over a year I had moved to lead man in production assisting the supervisor over assembly and boxing lines. Within a few month period he went to GM and I took over his role as supervisor until I left to go to GD.
