The 19,647-square-foot building primarily will be used for Orion hyperbolic fueling, ammonia servicing and high-pressure gas servicing and checkout before being transported to the Vehicle Assembly Building or integration With the Space Launch System. This project installation is time-critical so that the crew equipment and to process crew modules can be returned from space to the Operations and Checkout Building for possible reuse. The upgrades include installing new pneumatic systems for gaseous helium, gaseous oxygen, gaseous nitrogen and breathable air; hyperbolic systems for monocotyledonous, hydra zine and nitrogen tetroxide, and a ground cooling system. NASA Project The Industrial Area Chiller Plant $5.2 Million project the (IACP) provides chilled water to eight facilities in the north portion of the KSC Industrial Area. Facilities will serve include the KSC Headquarters Building, SSPF and other buildings in this area. Chilled water is produced by six (6) electricity-driven, centrifugal chillers. There are four (4) 1,875-ton chillers and two (2) 2,500-ton chillers for a total capacity of 12,500 tons. Configuration ied into the chillers within the O&C to provide system redundancy replacing the three-celled O&C cooling tower B, replacing motor control centers and variable frequency drives, replacing refrigerant-22 chillers, adding additional facilities to the Industrial area loop, and building modifications to increase chilled water supply temperature. The project constructed a 2.8 million gallon chilled water thermal energy storage system that will reduce chilled water production cost. The additional chilled water storage will also provide emergency loop fill capability in the event of an unplanned water loss. Show less
