  I've hung up my Vertex Tax Spurs. I started at Vertex as a Subject Matter Expert for the Personal Property Returns product line. In this position, I provided support to Product Development by describing valuation and compliance processes for the various reporting requirements. Working with Business Analysts, we prepared Software Requirements Specifications (SRS). For 12 years, I managed a group of Tax Research Professionals. The group conducts primary research on topical tax categories to determine taxability of products and services within the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Topical categories coverage is comprehensive including expected statutory and regulatory support for Sales & Use Taxes including Leasing, Manufacturing, Construction Contracting, Retail, Medical, and Computer Software and Support. Expanded coverage also is available for a variety of Environmental Fees related to Beverages, Auto Parts, Household products and Technology items such as computers and monitors. In addition to State level taxability - the unit continues to provide extensive coverage of Local Levels in those states with Home Rule cities and separate reporting requirements. We've backed off the International Taxes arena as the VAT group has expanded coverage with staff in Europe and South America. However, we still assist and support Value Added Taxes for the rest of the globe in some aspects of taxation. Over the past several years, we've continued to expand our coverage of Sales Tax Holidays - primarily for clients in the Retail and E Commerce space. It is amazing that the extent of coverage at both the states and local levels continues to expand. Vertex's O Series product line is not just a Sales & Use Tax application anymore. In addition to the impact of Environmental Fees mentioned above, other impositions include the new Federal Medical Excise Tax and a whole variety of non standard Food & Beverage taxes. Show less
