    • Head of Food Systems Impact
      • Jan 2022 - Present

Sentient Ventures is more than a fund. Our mission is to enable the innovators and change-makers to accelerate the removal of farmed animals from our food production systems, allowing our planet to heal and thrive. Our £30M UK-domiciled, tax-transparent, early growth-stage fund will invest in the bestinternational companies that are developing superior successors to animal products whiletargeting a 3-5x return on investment (MOIC). As Head of Food Systems Impact I have pioneered a life cycle assessment estimation tool to understand the animal and environmental impact of our investments compared to animal proteins. With this tool, I lead the screening of all investments opportunities to ensure we only invest in companies that can spare the most animal lives, avoid the greatest environmental impacts and trigger a shift in the impact food systems have.

Tom designed and implemented a detailed qualitative survey on Zanzibari fisherman to assess to what extent the growing use of mobile phones leads to a reduction in the experience of remoteness. Tom developed a proposal and methodology from which he received full funding from the University to conduct a 2-month research trip to Zanzibar. Using qualitative tools, such as in- depth interviews and focus groups he conducted a survey across Zanzibar’s main island. The research developed my interviewing, evaluation and report writing skills as well as having to present findings to stakeholders both in Govt. of Zanzibar and the University. The dissertation was a key component in my overall mark in receiving a 1st for my degree whilst also developing a range of key skills.
