Furniture store manager for Value City Furniture. Initially started in sales in 1983. Worked my way to assistant manager within 6 months. Rem,ained assistant manager until March of 1985. Took over store from manager that was moving to supervisory capacity. Managed until 1997. Managed the Columbus West Store from April of 1985 until September of 1985. Stores were self contained so the operation consisted of office staff, sales crew, bookkeeping duties, and delivery/warehouse operations… Show more Furniture store manager for Value City Furniture. Stores were self contained so the operation consisted of office staff, sales crew, bookkeeping duties, and delivery/warehouse operations. Raised store profits from 8% to 11% immediately. In September I was offered the chance to open the first East Coast store for the Value City chain. Managed 50 people at the store in Baltimore Md. Covered opening expenses faaster than any other store in the chain. Profits grew to as high as 12% on six hundred thousand volume. I was also responsible for the media placement for my store and the department store attached. Moved back to Columbus in 1998 to be closer to home office. Assisted in all of the marketing aspects of the company at home office while running the Columbus West Store. Duties included layout and merchandising of ads, television and radio production, and pre print and newspaper placement. Stayed with Value City until February of 1997. I also was given the added duties of managing the carpet department.
